Sunday Oct 4th – Community Wide Rocket Launch and Contest at 1:30pm. Details at the SciMath website.
Like rockets? Like to build and fly your own rockets? The Rocket Launch and Contest is open to all members of the community. You will need to build your own rocket prior to the event and have your own engines. Rockets will be judged on in the categories of Highest Altitude, Most Realistc, and Most Creative Design. There will be two categores for each contest: under 16 and over 16. We will be awarding rocket kits as prizes. Launch facilities are provided. Entry forms and safety rules are available at the website. Not a builder? Just come to see the flights! There is no charge for the event. The event is co-sponsored by the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute and the Physics Club.
Wednesday Oct 7th – Times Talk over STS 128 Shuttle Launch. Talk will be held in the FHSU union Ballroom at 11:30am, featuring John Heinrichs and Paul Adams.
Thursday Oct 8th – Debate: Human Space Exploration: Worth our money or not? Debate will be held in Cody Commons at noon, featuring Doug Drabkin and Paul Adams, moderated by John Heinrichs.
Also – Take advantage of the Open Observatory Sessions on top of Tomanek Hall, on Wednesday October 5th and Thursday October 6th, from 9pm until 10:30pm weather permitting. These times are supported by the FHSU Astronomy Club, Physics Department, and FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute.
